Week #26 – Richmond results are now complete and sent off to my brother (as Kuj is away on holidays) to get posted on our website.
We are now all tied up again in the 2008 Cobo Cup trivia contest as team Silveira answered a question incorrectly. He did appeal the answer so I sent Jay at www.jayski.com an e-mail with the question attached asking him to make a decision as to which answer is correct.
The question was:
NASCAR has implemented restrictor plates in various circumstances and during various periods in its history. In what year did NASCAR first require restrictor plates in certain circumstances?
Some answered 1970 and some answered 1971.
The correct answer from Jay was – 1970 Michigan was the year and race that NASCAR first required restrictor plates in certain circumstances.
Remember folks, drivers and teams do not add nor change parts in their vehicles. Only NASCAR can allow either. If they are caught then there are penalties and or fines attached to the violations. In 1970 at Michigan NASCAR required teams to add the restrictor plates to hopefully bring the speeds down as the cars were going to fast and becoming very dangerous on the track.
In 1971 they made the restrictor plates manditory at certain race tracks for 2 reasons. 1 was to cut the speeds down and the other reason was to give the teams with a smaller engine a better chance at being competitive on the big tracks.
Jay has answered and I have ruled that 1970 is the correct answer.
“NUFF SAID”!
