Hello all,
With us in a NASCAR Cup off week, I thought I would take this opportunatey to give an update on my families new little puppy. You can see a picture of little Sidney on my website at www.cobocup.com. Please make a comment of support if you so choose.
Sidney (our 8 week old Maltipoo) is in the Vet Hospital getting treatment for a Parvovirus. This thing is nasty and Lauren and I just wanted to spread the news about it for any of you that might be thinking of purchasing a new little puppy.
By reading the Parvo information below I hope it gets you to research information on this deadly virus so that you are aware of the signs that your dog may be infected. There is no cure but early detection can save your puppies life and after treatment will live a long heathy life. However, you should know that treatment is expensive as it takes 7 to 10 days of hospital care to fully defeat the virus and flush it out of the puppies system.
Our little Sidney is in his 8th day of treatment now and we hope to get him back home in the next day or two. His biggest hurtle now is eating regular food and keeping it down for 24 hours.
We love him.
“GO SID”!
xoxo
Parvovirus information,
INSIST that your new puppy has a Parvo test before you take him home. Preferably tested on the very same day you pick him up. The virus incubates in their system for approx. two weeks before they show any symptoms. A “week old” vet check from the breeder may possibly be useless, as they may have been exposed to the virus after the fact. They require 3 shots to be immune, the 1st shot at 6 weeks will not protect them. Whether it’s at the breeder’s expense, or your own – do not take ownership of that puppy until you have a recent Parvo test done. Always take messy poopies seriously in puppies – Get them to a Vet right away. Usually means the puppy is ill. Not necessarily Parvo, but could very well be life threatening. With Parvo, early detection & medical care is essential to their chances of survival.. every hour counts !! Parvo is a real threat ~ it’s everywhere, it’s vicious & it’s lethal.
A great website given to us from the Vet Hospital is at www.veterinarypartner.com
Tons of info from the site that you need to read before you purchase your new puppy.
Remember, your pet is like a member of the family. We hurt when they hurt and are happy when they are happy. Pets bring a lifetime of joy and can make all the bad days we have go away just by them running to use when we get home from a long days work, just like our kids when they were small.
Good luck to all the new or soon to be Cobo Cup healthy puppy owners cause the little guys can be a blast.
Jimbo & Lauren Killey.
