With less then 2 weeks remaining in the 2008 Cobo Cup entry deadline and 15 days until the 50th running of the Daytona 500, there have been 50 entries handed in. We are 1/4 way to the 200 entry cap.
Now the news.
California Testing over with #11B-Denny Hamlin being the overall fastest in a Toyota at 182.523mph in the Day 1 morning session, followed by #12A-Ryan Newman in a Dodge [Day1morning], #18-Kyle Busch in a Toyota [Day1morning], #8A-Mark Martin in a Chevy [Day1morning] and #99A-Carl Edwards in a Ford [ Day1evening]. 49 drivers ran laps. All teams who tested were full-time teams except #34-John Andretti [could end up full time with a sponsor and making the top-35 in owners points], #65A-Chad McCumbee ran a 3rd Haas CNC Racing Chevy and could run some races this season. Mark Martin and Aric Almirola shared the #8A-Chevy as they will this season. See the California Test Speeds Best by Driver page to see who ran the best, when they ran the best lap.
California testing over: in the final test session at California Speedway, only 17 cars stuck around, with 16 running laps. #48A-Johnson was the fastest in the afternoon session with a speed of 179.497mph in a Chevy, followed by #24A-Gordon in a Chevy, #2B-Busch in a Dodge, #5A-Mears in a Chevy and #66B-Riggs in a Chevy. The fastest Toyota was #84A-Allmendinger in 9th. No Ford teams stuck around for the final session. #45B-Petty was the slowest of the 16 cars at 175.653. #43B-Labonte was listed as 17th on the chart but no speed listed.
