Merry Christmas everyone. The 2008 Cobo Cup pick sheet is 90% complete. For the next 4 weeks I will give you a sneek peak at each category as I complete them and explain why I put teams in each category.
Category #1
Jimmy Johnson – Obviously being the Cup Champion the last 2 years in a row lands Jimmy the #1 pick of 2008.
Jeff Gordon – Runner up in 2007 and a 7th place finish in 2006 lands Jeff in the #2 spot for 2008. In the classic points for 2007 Gordon would have captured his 5th Cup title.
Matt Kenseth – Placing 4th in 2007 and 2nd in 2006 gives this always Dark Horse the #3 pick for 2008.
Kyle Busch – A tough pick for 2008, however this young kid has surprised alot of people especially Joe Gibbs. If Gibbs can calm him down and get him to focus on the job in hand he might just be a contender one day for the Cup Championship. Finishing 5th in 2007 and 12th in 2007 makes Kyle my #4 pick for 2008.
Tony Stewart – Being a 2 time Cup champion makes it tough not to pick Tony for the 2008 championship. The draw back for Tony is Toyota. Can Gibbs and Tony finally put Toyota into victory lane? 2008 will answer that question. Finishing 6th in 2007 and 4th in 2006 makes Tony my #5 pick for 2008.
So there you have it, the 2008 Cobo Cup first category.
Pitbull’s first category pick – Jimmy Johnson. With his performance in the COT car and 2 straight championships it is hard not to pick Jimmy.
Who will be the top dog in category #1 by Homestead in November?
Good luck and check next week for my second category pick.
Jimbo
a.k.a. Pitbull
